Remodeling Check List

Hire a Professional or Do It Yourself?

If you’re like most people considering a home renovation, you may be wondering: “Can’t I do some of this myself?” The answer of course is, “Sure!” The real question, however, should probably be: “Do I want to do this myself?”

If you enjoy doing the work, have the skill and time to do it, and are confident that you’ll be happy with the results—tackling some home renovation tasks yourself can be a great experience. If your primary concern is saving money, just make sure that the amount you save justifies the time and effort you put into it and that you’re happy with the quality when you’re done. (Oh, yeah—make sure you can pass inspection, too!)

Here are some common home renovation tasks that you might want to consider. Just because you don’t do everything, doesn’t mean you can’t do something. Use this checklist to identify the tasks you want to tackle and those you’d rather leave to the pros.
